My name is Rachel Saunders and I am married with four teenage children. I have spent many years living and working overseas in Southeast Asia. Last year, after working in Cambodia for the last eight years we moved to Falmouth. We all loved the experiences of living overseas and are now enjoying living in beautiful Cornwall.
I have 14 year’s experience in teaching in primary school and also in secondary school teaching art. Over the years I have enjoy working with young people who have had a range of learning and behavioural challenges. I enjoy working alongside young people, their families and teachers to help everyone to have the tools to help individuals achieve their potential. In my last job, I was part of a team that used a holistic approach to support young people who were struggling in school. I also have experience working in adult education on art, I have worked in mental health and dementia care, and have been a mentor in a centre for adults with special educational needs.
My real passion is art which includes painting, drawing, textiles, printing, woodwork, weaving, batik pottery and collage. I love using art to boost people’s confidence and provide a vehicle for people to learn about themselves and to give them time to think and process things in their life. I have found art to be really helpful in dealing with a variety of issues including anger, loss, stress, anxiety, depression and self-confidence. My approach is to use art processes as a means to work through issues going on or just a space to relax and unwind. I have attended a number of art therapy workshops which I found really helpful as inspiration for me as I use art in different ways.
I also love reading, cooking, sewing, upcycling, walking, going out for coffee, shopping, and spending time with my family and friends. I love being outdoors, specially camping and building campfires, going to the beach, with the occasional rock climb! I am a committed Christian and love being part of Anchor of Hope Church in Falmouth.
